The Bull & Heifer is a small but vibrant country pub in the heart of the village Bettws Cedewain, Nr Newtown. It’s a traditional black and white public house, with oodles of character and charm, where you are sure of a warm welcome whenever you arrive.
The Bull & Heifer was refurbished from the old village post office, so the building has always been a huge part of the village. We have a new addition, which looks as if it has been there for years, the locals bar, the most vibrant place in the area on a Friday night. Our quirky restaurant is ideal for a quiet meal for two or a large birthday party. With all the food locally sourced and freshly cooked to order.
Our bar is stocked with all the essential ales, beer and spirits to ensure your night is a good one. We are now offering Bull & Heifer bed and breakfast. We have Bettws Hall Lodges located 200 yards from the Bull and Heifer with beautiful Georgian style interior throughout. Relax in front of the log burner in the evening and enjoy a freshly cooked breakfast in the large dining room. You can visit all the local attractions and finish your day with us at the Bull & Heifer for a mouth-watering dinner and a drink of your choice.
“We pre-booked a meal in the restaurant and arrived an hour early, which gave us an opportunity to sample some of the fine real ale. Once seated and ordered we were told there would be a slight wait as the food was cooked fresh to order. Both my rack of herb crusted lamb and my wife’s chicken in a chasseur sauce were cooked to perfection. The vegetables were also excellent and the home made chips (which we didn’t expect) also very good. Both our desserts were a fine finish to the evening. Good beer, excellent food, value for money and great customer service in lovely surroundings, finished off a lovely weekend where we stayed at the first class Bettws Hall just a short walk away. We will definitely be back.”

“My wife and I visited the Bull & Heifer in January as a treat for her birthday. We both had heard very good things and were eager to try it for ourselves.”

“First impressions are that it’s a lovely country village pub with plenty of character, a warm roaring open fire in the main bar area, and a bit of humour with the artwork in the toilets! We were greeted by the staff behind the bar, who were very friendly and attentive, and taken to our table in a room off the main bar area. My wife ordered the Baked Brie and a Sirloin Steak and I had the Pheasant Goujons and a Ribeye Steak. The food was excellent, very well presented and the portion sizes were just right. At first you may think the food a little overpriced for ‘pub grub’, but I can assure you the taste is worth it. We both had a great evening and would certainly recommend it to others, and will be visiting again in the future. I would say that the pub would be suited to families, although those with young children may not appreciate the louder hunting parties that may be there. This didn’t bother either of us personally”
We stopped by here to start my hen weekend off, and it was brilliant! Sun was shining, drinks in the beer garden and an amazing welcome for parties!! We had some food here to start the weekend off, and we also finished here on the Sunday night – fantastic place for parties and events, would highly recommend to anyone.

“We stopped in for a little light refreshment at this proper pub, and while there are only two real ales, they are perfectly kept and served by the lovely landlady. In the fine weather we were able to sit outside, but inside is very welcoming and just as nice to enjoy your visit. Next time we’re in the area we’ll definitely be calling in and sampling the food as quell as the drinks.”

“My husband and I decided to go out to lunch and thought we would try the Bull and Heifer, as we had heard so much about it. The pub is absolutely full of character, we were greeted by a friendly member of staff and an open fire. What more do you need? The menu choice was great. Not vast, but quite adequate, and it is more extensive in the evening apparently. We had flat mushroom with a blue cheese dressing and then we had one plaice and chips and one rump steak strips in a peppercorn sauce with mash and peas. Both very good, well-presented and on Hot plates. Wonderful! ( so many places serve hot food on cold plates). The drinks were not expensive, and the beer very good. Will definitely be back and take or friends.”
